The half-day session.
Learn to use layout and type basics.
Learn why balance is evil.(*) |
You will begin with the first crucial art lesson that Daddy Desktop founder Larry Miller himself had (as a teenager learning how to pass the art test for acceptance into Cooper Union),
placing black shapes on a piece of paper.
This exercise will help you develop sensitivity to visual relationships. To balance. To dynamic imbalance. Clumping. Decision making.
If time permits, Daddy Desktop will apply your lessons to a current project. Sound too easy? We've seen students mature in one lesson.
This will help with small-space ads, stationery design, sales sheets, flyers, brochures. We will focus on creativity, design, and also discuss writing and marketing, but we won’t spend much time on how to use software (plenty of other companies specialize in software).
You will also learn the one most important design aspect of a page. And it's completely under your own control. But you must first master the lesson with the black shapes.
(*You really want dynamic imbalance.)

The full-day session.
The half-day session above. Plus:
Concepts and ideas. Professional resources.
The greats and why. Your own style.

Let's talk about concept development
how to create and evaluate an idea.
You'll meet heroes of advertising and design over the last 40 years.
Do you know the names Paul Rand, George Lois, David Ogilvy, William Bernbach, Mary Wells, Julian Koenig, Milton Glaser?
How about Cassandre, Leo Lionni, Seymour Chwast (kwahst), Paula Scher, Saul Bass, Helmut Krone, John Alcorn, Paul Davis?
Or Bob Gage, Ed McCabe, Amil Gargano, Bradbury Thompson,Vance Jonson, Ellen Shapiro, Massimo Vignelli, Sam Scali, Louise Fili, Daddy Desktop's idols: Herb Lubalin and Lou Dorfsman?
You'll meet them through their work beautifully designed and stylishyettimeless work which never looks dated and is not affected by visual fads.
This will help with small-space ads, stationery design, sales sheets, flyers, brochures. Daddy Desktop will focus on creativity, design, writing, marketing, but we we'll spend only a little time on how to use software (plenty of other companies specialize in software training).

A series of classes.
But wait... |
